Tips for Using your ladder
Inspect Your Ladder
Make sure your ladder is in good condition with no cracks or splits in the steps or rungs.
Set Up on Stable, Level Ground
Choose a clear, firm surface. Watch out for ice, snow, or slopes. Always secure spreader braces and rung locks.
Use the 4:1 Ratio
For every 4 feet of ladder height, the base should be 1 foot away from the wall or surface.
Tip: Stand with toes against the ladder base and arms outstretched. Your palms should touch the rung at shoulder height.
Climb Facing the Ladder
Move one step at a time and set one foot firmly before moving the next.
Maintain Three Points of Contact
Always keep two hands and one foot—or two feet and one hand—on the ladder for stability.
Ladder DON'Ts
Don’t Set Up on an Unstable Surface
Never place your ladder on boxes, barrels, loose bricks, or other makeshift bases.
Don’t Exceed the Weight Limit
Check your ladder’s maximum load rating and account for the weight of both you and your tools.
Don’t Lean Out Past the Side Rails
Never overreach; this can tip the ladder. Climb down and move the ladder closer instead.
Additional Ladder Safety Tips
Extend your ladder Past the Platform
If you’re stepping onto a roof or higher platform, the ladder should extend at least three feet past the edge of the platform you climb onto.
Have a Spotter
Have a spotter to steady the ladder and help keep an eye on safety.
Know Your Ladder
Different ladders (like step ladders and extensions) have different features. Take time to understand how yours works before use.
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off or conditions aren’t safe, don’t risk it. It’s always okay to stop, climb down, and reassess.
Your safety is the top priority—review these ladder guidelines often, and don’t hesitate to pause or ask for help if you feel unsure during installation. Happy (and safe) decorating!
