How to Set Up and Use Your Outdoor Digital Timer

Complete guide to setting up and programming your Outdoor Digital Timer (TIMER-TRI). Learn to set schedules, use photocell modes, program custom on/off times, and troubleshoot common issues with your timer.

Initial Setup

Before first use: Plug the timer in for at least 30 minutes to charge the internal battery. Once the screen displays, the unit is ready for programming.

Mounting requirements:

  • Mount vertically with receptacle facing downward

  • Position receptacle at least 2 feet above ground level

  • Suitable for outdoor use when mounted correctly (raintight but not for water immersion)

Button Functions

  • MODE - Manual override and scroll between timer status options

  • ⏱ (TIME) - Press and hold for 2 seconds to set current time

  • PROG - Press and hold for 2 seconds to begin programming

  • + / - - Increase or decrease time and day settings

  • SET/πŸ”“ - Confirm settings or clear (press and hold)

  • RESET - Clear all programmed settings (small hole under dashboard - use non-conducting object like wooden toothpick)

  • PHOTO SENSOR - Detects light and dark conditions

Set Current Time

  1. Press and hold ⏱ button for 2 seconds

  2. Press + or - to set the correct day

  3. Press SET/πŸ”“ to move to hour setting

  4. Press + or - to set hour (confirm AM/PM is correct)

  5. Press SET/πŸ”“ to move to minute setting

  6. Press + or - to set minutes

  7. Press SET/πŸ”“ to finish and return to normal display

Tip: Press and hold SET/πŸ”“ to clear settings and return to defaults. Press ⏱ or wait 15 seconds to return to standby.

Operating Modes

Press MODE to cycle through options:

1. ON - Always On

Outputs remain continuously on.

2. OFF - Always Off

Outputs remain continuously off.

3. RDM - Random Security Mode

  • Turns on at random times for 15 minutes

  • Up to 5 on/off events daily

  • Creates "lived-in" appearance for security

  • On times vary each day

4. AUTO - Scheduled Timer

Turn on/off at your exact programmed times.

5. AUTO CDS - Photocell Mode

  • On at dusk

  • Off at dawn

  • No programming required

6. AUTO CDS + TIMER - Combined Mode

  • On at dusk

  • Off at your programmed time

Program Your Schedule (AUTO Mode)

  1. Select AUTO mode using MODE button

  2. Press and hold PROG for 2 seconds

  3. Press + or - to select day(s):

    • Individual days (MO, TU, WE, TH, FR, SA, SU)

    • Weekdays (MO-FR)

    • Weekends (SA-SU)

    • All week (MO-SU)

  4. Press SET/πŸ”“ to enter hour setting

  5. Press + or - to set hour (confirm AM/PM)

  6. Press SET/πŸ”“ to enter minute setting

  7. Press + or - to set minutes

  8. Press SET/πŸ”“ to program OFF time

  9. Repeat steps 3-7 for OFF time

  10. Create up to 8 on/off programs

To save: Press ⏱ or wait 15 seconds

To clear a program: Press and hold SET/πŸ”“

Program with Photocell (AUTO CDS + TIMER)

Use this mode to turn lights on at dusk and off at a specific time.

  1. Press MODE to select AUTO CDS + TIMER

  2. Press and hold PROG for 2 seconds

  3. Press + or - to select day(s)

  4. Press SET/πŸ”“ to enter OFF hour

  5. Press + or - to set hour (confirm AM/PM)

  6. Press SET/πŸ”“ to enter OFF minutes

  7. Press + or - to set minutes

  8. Create up to 8 off-time programs

  9. Press ⏱ or wait 15 seconds to save

Troubleshooting

Lights Don't Turn On at Dusk

Cause: Too much ambient light near photocell sensor

Solution: Move timer to location without ambient light sources

Lights Don't Turn On (Even in ON Mode)

Possible causes:

  • Timer not in ON position

  • Lights not functioning

  • Timer not receiving power

Solutions:

  • Test lights by plugging directly into outlet

  • Confirm lights have power switch in ON position

  • Verify timer LED lights up when plugged in

Lights Flashing (Turning On and Off)

Cause: Photocell sensor detecting light from connected lights

Solution: Move lights away from timer or reposition timer away from lights
