Understanding Your Space

Before purchasing components, take these important steps:

  1. Measure the total linear feet where you want to install lights

  2. Identify power outlet locations

  3. Note any architectural features that might affect installation (corners, peaks, etc.)

We highly recommend sketching a wiring diagram before starting the installation to help you plan critical installation factors such as power and controller positioning. Here’s an example:

Essential Components

For a complete Chromaglow installation, you'll need:

Power Supply Requirements

  • 1 power supply for every 200 feet of lights

Controller Requirements

  • 1 controller for every 400 lights

Connection Components

  • Extension cords (available in 10ft and 2ft lengths)

  • T-Connectors to split runs of lights or inject power supplies

Important Distance Limitations

Keep these measurements in mind:

  • Maximum extension cord run: 17 feet

  • Maximum distance before power injection is needed: 200 feet

  • Maximum lights per controller: 400 lights

  • Wi-Fi range for controller: 100-150 feet

Power Considerations

To ensure optimal performance:

  • Plan power supply locations based on available outdoor outlets

  • Consider using power injection for runs longer than 200 feet

Connectivity

Ensure there is a stable wifi connection for the installation. Smart devices typically only connect on 2.4GHz networks, so you’ll need to check if one is available. If not, find out who the wifi provider is, and follow the providers instructions for enabling a 2.4GHz band. It’s possible and easy to do on most wifi networks.

Mounting Options

Choose your mounting method based on your surface type:

  • Stainless steel screws (1/2 inch) - Best for wood surfaces

  • VHB adhesive tape - Ideal for smooth, clean surfaces

  • Edge clips - Perfect for shingles or gutters

  • Soffit clips - Designed for mounting behind fascia board

Additional Considerations

Don't forget to plan for:

  • A professional finish- track covers and extension cable clips and covers are available for wire concealment.
