Overview

5mm mini lights are our most versatile lighting for trees, hedges, pillars, gazebos, and architectural accents. This guide explains how 5mm mini light strings connect, which adapters they require, how to calculate safe run lengths, the best use cases across landscapes and architecture, and the specific types we sell with guidance on when to use each.

The Coaxial Connection System:

  • 5mm mini lights use watertight, threaded coaxial connectors sealed with rubber O‑rings for professional outdoor installations

  • Positive‑lock threads secure connections so wind, vibration, or cable tension do not cause accidental disconnects

  • The coaxial system is designed for connecting mini light strings end‑to‑end and for branching with matched coaxial splitters and extensions

  • A coaxial Light String Adapter is required to plug 5mm mini lights into a power source; two‑prong household splitters are not compatible without the proper adapter

Light String Adapters and Accessories

  • Coaxial String Light Adapter: connects from your AC power source to the first 5mm mini light string in the run

  • Coaxial 3‑ and 5‑Tap Splitters: split a single coaxial feed into three or five directions for clean, symmetrical branching around trees or structures

  • Coaxial extension cords: bridge gaps between separate areas without adding LEDs, preserving brightness and balance

  • Coaxial end caps: included with every 5mm mini light string; cap and seal the final connector to protect against moisture ingress

How Many 5mm Mini Light Strings can be connected Per Run?

The safe maximum run length for 5mm mini lights is 45 strings for most colours, but you can connect up to 90 yellow and orange strings in one run.

Common Uses for Mini Lights

  • Trunk and branch wrap trees with the Brown Wire mini lights. The 4–6 inch LED spacing produces a natural effect, avoiding the lights appearing to be in line on cylindrical trunks and branches

  • Use green wire mini lights or C6 string lights to decorate hedges and shrubs. Mini lights provide a dense, even sparkle that adds depth and visual texture across plant massing. Slow Twinkle mini lights can be particularly beautiful for a randomized firefly-like effect in gardens.

  • Use whichever wire colour blends into the background best for pillars, railings, and gazebos.

  • For gardens and pathways, 5mm mini lights and C6 string lights provide a soft ambient glow for wayfinding and mood lighting

  • Seasonal décor and events: choose steady for classic warmth or twinkle for dynamic sparkle and motion
