Troubleshooting payment methods at checkout

This guide helps you fix missing or limited payment options at checkout, including Purchase Order (PO) and E‑Transfer. Use it when Shop Pay takes over or when methods won’t show.

Quick checklist

  • Check where you are checking out: If the page shows Shop Pay branding or only “Pay now” or instalments, you are in Shop Pay. To use PO or E‑Transfer, you need our Big Star Lights checkout

  • On the Shop Pay screen, choose “Checkout as guest” to return to the Big Star Lights checkout

  • On our checkout, enter your email first, then your shipping address, then apply your discount code

  • If options are still missing, sign in to your Big Star Lights store account and retry


Step‑by‑step: Restore PO or E‑Transfer

  1. Check whether you’re in Shop Pay or the Big Star Lights checkout

  • At the Shop Pay checkout, you will only see “Pay now” or “Pay in 2 instalments” as payment methods

  • “Pay with Purchase Order (PO)” and “E‑Transfer” are not visible in the Shop Pay checkout

  • At the Shop Pay checkout, shipping choices may be hidden inside a dropdown menu

If you want to pay by E‑Transfer or PO, follow the steps below to return to the usual Big Star Lights checkout

  1. Exit Shop Pay and return to the Big Star Lights checkout

  • On the Shop Pay checkout screen, scroll down and select “Checkout as guest.” This takes you back to our standard checkout where more payment methods are shown

  • On desktop, clearing cookies for shop.app can stop the automatic redirect into Shop Pay

  1. At Big Star Lights checkout (as a guest):

  • Enter your account email address first. This helps your eligible discounts load

  • Enter your shipping address next

  • Apply your discount code in the discount field. If the email does not match an approved discount code, the code will not apply

  1. Choose your payment method

  • You should now see all available options you are eligible for, including “Pay with Purchase Order (PO)” and “E‑Transfer” (Canada only)

  • Select the option you want and follow the on‑screen instructions

  1. Still not seeing PO or E‑Transfer?

  • Sign into your Big Star Lights store account, then try checkout again on our site (ensuring you’re not signed in to Shop Pay)

  • Still having issues? Contact support by asking to chat with a live agent, and include: a screenshot of the checkout page, the full URL, and the email you used.


Why this happens

Logging in via Shop or being auto‑signed into Shop Pay can force the Shop Pay checkout, which doesn’t show all of our payment methods or custom checkout messages. Returning to our standard checkout restores PO and E‑Transfer payment options.

  • Shop Pay can bypass parts of our standard checkout and hide PO or E‑Transfer

  • To exit: choose “Checkout as guest” or use an incognito window

  • Desktop only: clear cookies for shop.app if redirection persists
