Which track should I use?

  • Chromaglow Pro Hat Track

    • Heights: 13/16", 1-1/2", 2"

    • Use hat track when there is a standard fascia with a vinyl or aluminum J‑channel. Insert the narrow flange of the hat track into the J‑channel and fasten through the wide flange into the fascia substrate.

    • Goal: position the Chromaglow Pro LED modules flush to the bottom edge of the fascia for even brightness along the roof line.

  • Chromaglow Pro Fascia Track

    • Best for taller fascias that drop ~2-1/4" or more below the soffit.

    • Mount the fascia track to the backside of the fascia and fine‑tune the vertical height so the LEDs sit flush to the fascia’s bottom edge.

  • Chromaglow Pro Drip Edge Track

    • Ideal when there’s metal flashing at the top edge of a wall or commercial fascia.

    • Slide the top edge of the drip edge track under the flashing lip and secure with a self‑tapping screw into the substrate without compromising the waterproofing of the flashing.

    • The LED modules in drip edge track angle outward (~20°) for a pleasant wall wash and better street visibility.

Pro Tip: If there is no fascia and the soffit is flush to the wall plane, use the 13/16" hat track or a 1" two‑piece channel track to achieve a clean, flange‑free look.

How high should the Chromaglow Pro tracks sit? Measuring fascia and soffit correctly

  1. Identify the fascia drop relative to the soffit using a tape measure or spacer block.

  2. Measure the fascia drop in three places (both ends and the middle). Many fascias are slightly slanted for gutter drainage.

  3. Use the largest measured drop to select the track height and the mounting position of the aluminum track.

  4. Target alignment: the LED modules should be flush to the bottom edge of the fascia. Avoid mounting the track so high that the LEDs sit behind the fascia, which creates dark spots from shadow lines.

Clean corners and terminations

  • Chromaglow Pro Track Corner Pieces

    • Prefabricated corners save time and yield a crisp look. Available for hat and channel tracks.

    • Cut with aviation snips for small adjustments. Dry‑fit before fastening.

  • Chromaglow Pro Track End Caps

    • Use end caps for tidy terminations and to keep out debris.

    • Create a square pass‑through in end caps for wire entry/exit sized to the cable jacket.

  • Managing Wire Splits Behind Corners

    • Place Chromaglow Pro T‑connectors inside the track cavity or behind soffits when possible for a hidden, protected junction.

Fasteners and finishes: best practices and common mistakes

  • Chromaglow Pro Track Screws

    • Painted 1/4" hex self‑tapping screws blend with the track color. Plan roughly 2 per 40" track section, with extras as needed.

    • Use magnetized or articulating bits to minimize dropped fasteners, especially on fascia track installs.

  • Drilling and Cutting Chromaglow Pro Tracks

    • Pre‑drill when needed to avoid deforming thin aluminum. Debur cuts to prevent wire abrasion.

  • Aligning Chromaglow Pro Tracks

    • Stagger two‑piece channel bases by a few inches to minimize visible gaps and misalignment.

  • Weather and Expansion

    • Keep wire fasteners out of active drip paths. Maintain consistent spacing to accommodate thermal expansion.

  • Common Mistakes to Avoid

    • Mounting too high so LEDs sit behind fascia shadow lines.

    • Visible, mismatched screws that break the clean daytime look.

    • Crowded junctions at corners without strain relief or dielectric protection.
